Tailgate Auctions Coming Soon!

School is about to start, the football teams are getting ready to match on the gridiron, it's time to tailgate! What does tailgating have to do with the auction business in Coshocton Ohio? I have been studying the business end of the Auction profession and talking to other people, both locally and on a national level. Like everything else, labor costs affect business and prices. The cost of labor can impact a small auction house to the extent that people won't consign, and then there is nothing for bidders to buy! So, here is what I am in the planning stages to unveil in August or early September. We are going to host a tailgate auction. Either weekly or every other week we will have anyone that has something to sell, load it up in their car, truck or van and bring it in. Depending upon where we do it, you will either unload it on the grass and wait for the auctioneer to come around, or you will drive up to the auctioneer and your goods will be auctioned off. After the tailgate, we can go inside the auction building and enjoy the other items.

Rules-

Car, truck, or van only, no trailers. If you have that many items, consign them to be sold inside.

Time limit- You will have a time limit of 30 minutes. To be fair to all the other sellers, please only bring enough items that we can auction off in that 30 minute time limit. If we get to the end, you will have the option to either load up unsold items or sell remaining items absolute, meaning if there is a bid, it sells, as 1 lot.
Absolute- There will be no reserve on any items sold in the tailgate auctions
Seller Fees- $1.00 per item, plus 25% of the sale price. The $1.00 per item fee is to highly discourage leftover garage sale items. I am not interested in junk sales for the tailgate, bring those items in to be consigned for a box lot sale.
Buyer fees- 3% buyers premium if you pay by any other method other than cash. This may change as the business changes. Higher fees may get you a catalogue of items to be sold, but we will have to take it slowly.
Auction before the Auction- Sellers- You will have the opportunity, starting at $1.00 to be the first vehicle in line. We will auction off the first 5 auction spots. We don't need anyone camping out to be first, so we will auction off the spots.
In other news- Some other things I have been ruminating on is the fact that I love auctions. I always have. In fact, it is the reason I studied to become one. That said, I would not be happy if I had to bid against the Auctioneer. Therefore, if there is an item that I want, I will have someone bid on my behalf, and my limit will be determined before the auction, much like the way we handle absentee bids. In the event of a tailgate item where I have not seen the item, I won't bid. If I make an error and start bidding, please remind me of what I have said here and I will stop. I will not lose bidders because they feel like they are competing with me.

Please do not forget, if you are looking to do a benefit for someone, if I am not busy, I will be happy to help, and as it is a benefit, it is free to you.

Til next time,
