School Auctions

I was blessed to become a part of Coshocton history this past week as we auctioned off the contents of the three remaining elementary schools. What a fascinating experience! I heard so many stories of times past, and saw people cherishing those memories of schools up to a hundred years old and more. My hat is off to the many volunteers and other workers that made this happen. Progress, forging into the future, has its steps that need to be taken. We built the new Elementary which meant saying goodbye to the old. Southlawn was sold, so the contents were relatively easy to liquidate although there were many many items to sell. We saw so many faces, some there to collect a bit of history, others there to re purpose. Many many friends and people we knew, yet many new friends as well. Lincoln and Central took much more time as we sold literally everything salvageable since the building was to be torn down. By the time we got to Central on Thursday, we had 4 Auctioneers going for up to 8 hours. We even sold the shrubbery to raise money for the school system. As an apprentice, I learned the necessity for security, and how to implement it. While people were people, with a few instances of negativity, all in all, it was a life enriching experience.
I wanted to mention that I am proud to have James F. Nelson, not only as a sponsor as I finish up my apprenticeship, but also as a mentor. I have had many different mentors in my life and he is right up there near the top. As the frailties of life hit him, he has unwaveringly done to the best of his ability to manage all the ins and outs of this set of Auctions. Not only that, because of his character, he did all of this for his community at no charge. I am proud to call him my friend.
