With being fresh and new at yet another endeavor, I felt that I needed to share my feelings, my goals, and other thoughts now, because you can never really remember when you were brand new, after the fact.
While brand new at being an auctioneer, I am not brand new to the area, nor am I new to business. I have been blessed in my life to join, start and discard, several businesses in my life. My pride and joy is of course, CoshoctonCars.com LTD., my car lot in which I finance those with no credit or bad credit. I got into that particular area of the car industry to help people get decent transportation, and because I felt I could do a better job of serving this clientele on a daily basis. I also own several rental properties under CoshoctonRentals.com. I am proud to say that I was a Carleton Sheets junkie, and I attained quite a portfolio with very little money out of my pocket using his creative financing techniques. I also started an online magazine, forum type website called CoshoctonGrapevine. It was a neat site with pieces and parts of Facebook, Craigslist, forums, Newsfeeds etc.... Unfortunately, I had to close it down, but one day I would like to see it here again even under new ownership. I also farm using sustainable farming methods. I call our little farm Serenity Farms of Ohio and we have a site called Ohio Pork and Poultry. We raise free ranged chickens for eggs, Freedom Ranger Meat chickens, and Heritage Breed Tamworth pigs for ourselves and our customers.
I mention these businesses for several reasons. I am proud of my businesses. I may or may not be wildly successful in financial terms, but they tell a story about me. I see so many sites saying "Pick me, I am the best and this is why". Anyone can and I suppose it is accepted, to say all the good things about oneself. One of the reasons I posted my businesses is to give you an idea about what makes Shawn tick.
As a local business owner, there are people that like and respect me, and there are those that, well.... don't. It is ok, and I write about it because I am comfortable in my own skin, I do what I think is right when making business decisions.
Talking about business decisions, in the auction industry, like anything else, you have honest people and then dishonest people. I have seen auctioneers who take phantom bids from non existent bidders to push up the price on items, I have seen auctioneers that prey on consignors through the use of, or actually, the not using of a contract.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I believe in doing things the right way even if it hurts the bottom line.
I love the fabric of a small community where everyone knows everyone and half are related to one another. In fact, my sponsor, Jim Nelson was one of the first people I met when I first came to town. He sold me my house in Keene. Apparently he has watched my professional development in Coshocton and has thought well enough of me to sponsor me in his own profession.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting with me and listening to my random thoughts, and look forward to working with you in the future.
Shawn
