I suppose that I should be off the wall excited, as I hit a milestone in my career, a milestone that many never attain, that being an auction that surpasses 7 figures.... significantly. As a student of human behavior, if my clients would have listed their property there is no way that we would have listed it for the money it brought. Auctions work! I also know, though observance, that our multi par methods, brought over $100,000.00 more than the traditional multi par. Many of my colleagues eschew Association membership as a waste of resources, but believe me, if you can learn from, and associate with professionals that work in these genres daily.... it helps.... tremendously.
We had bidders all over the place, Ben called, I rang, Wayne and Rooster were on the hill where Ben couldn't see, and in between raindrops and umbrellas, we executed the performance flawlessly. Being in a competitors area, I was keenly interested in the auction as perceived by the attending bidders. One shared with me, that he did not expect a professional auction company, as he'd never heard of us, but was very impressed. He also liked that we came out to them to consult with them on the combinations of tracts that they might be interested in.
I honestly thought, that if the auction was more successful than expected, that it would be party on.... I came home and watched my Buckeyes thump Illinois.... I am excited... but the reward was in the eyes of my seller and her family. The fact that the totals had a lot more zeroes than I am used to, really didn't mean what I thought it would. I am excited about what our future holds. I am thinking about pressing Ben to expand into our area. I kind of like what we did and look forward to serving my community.
On a much deeper and personal note, I have, at times, been a polarizing character. I have people that were once very close to me, that today, are not.
I would like to take a few moments to thank a lot of people.
1st, Ben Schafer- Thanks for being the guiding hand, and allowing me to work with you and become a part of your team. Wayne Cooper- Thank you for your eternal positive attitude, and for listening to me. Rich Kruse- For your eternal loyalty, friendship, mentorship and sticking with me even when my drama caused you professional issues with passionate professionals in Columbus.
Brigitte Kruse- Thank you for your loyalty, and your belief that I could do this. Charles Nicholl's- Thank you for always being there for me and believing in me. Spanky and Amy Assiter- Thank you for treating me, not as a new guy, but like family, and as a professional. Cookie Lockhart- You brought me out to Taos and gave me the opportunity. Buddy Barton- Thanks for giving me one of my first Ohio opportunities. Brian Shafer- Thanks for the opportunity to work with you. You taught me that I could do this and handle a crowd. Renee Jones- Thank you for teaching me so much more than you think you did. Same with the Weiman's out of Missouri... I learned tons from y'all.... For the record, I never threatened to kill anyone if they came to C&S, nor did I threaten to shank anyone.... But, everyone is forgiven in that respect, and I have moved on, and I truly am gratetful for all these people that have been in my life, as they have taught me so much about life in general, as well as my profession.
I want to take a moment and recognize my auction school, the K&M School of Auctioneering. Kenny and Marie Roberts operate a truly professional operation. They may not have the name recognition of some of the Auction Schools that this country offers, but I am thankful for them, and their friendship. Without them, I wouldn't be here.
Many thanks to the individuals that put up with my fears and anxieties in the days before this particular event. You are appreciated.
Thanks for joining my ramble.
